Leonel Messi stands on leaving Barcelona this summer, despite Ronald Koeman hopes he dedicate his future to the club


Barcelona have been dealt a major problem after Lionel Messi reportedly informed the club he wants to leave this summer.

Messi reportedly made up his mind to walk away from the club which he made his home for 17 years after talks with new boss Ronald Koeman.

Reports from tycsports.com indicate that the Barcelona legend made his intentions to leave Barca known via a bureaufax message.

It is understood that the 33 year old Argentine maestro is ready to activate a clause that would enable him to terminate his contract with the club.

But the club claims Lionel Messi had until June 10 to terminate the contract and that it is in the hands of the legal services at this point.

Messi had one of the most unforgiving seasons of his otherwise glittery career in 2019/2020, in a campaign which was summed up by a humiliating defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter final.

For fans who could never imagine Lionel Messi without the famous red and blue Catalan shirt, it is still not quite comprehendible that there is now a real prospect of Barca’s all_time goal scorer leaving the club.

Part of the conversation with new manager Koeman involved Messi being brutally honest and telling the manager he was 'more in than out' of the club as it stands.

Lionel Messi was then left frustrated and angry when he learnt that details of his crisis meeting with the new boss had leaked to the public.

Barcelona are looking to rebuild their team straight from the top of the hierarchy, with a number of big names already coming face to face with the axes.

The Barcelona boss also recently opened up on the Messi situation where he subtly hinted at wanting the Argentine to stay.

Koeman said ''I don't know if I have to convince Lionel Messi to stay, whether it's that or not. He is the best player in the world and the best player in the world you want in your team, you don't want him playing against you ,'.

A number of big Europe clubs are monitoring the Argentine's situation with the hopes of signing him if indeed he leaves Barcelona.

Meanwhile, the newly appointed Barcelona handler Ronald Koeman has began massive overhauling at the Nou Camp with the likes of Suarez, Umitti, Ivan Rakitic and Vidal been reportedly told to leave.

Having seen what masterminded the exit of his predecessor Setien at Barcelona, Dutchman Koeman is planning to succeed from next season with the Catalans.

Setién failed to win any titles with Barcelona last season which was the first time in twelve years that the Catalans will end the whole term without lifting a title.

The most annoying part of their campaign at the just concluded 2019/20 season is their embarrassing defeat against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

After Real Madrid won the League title, Barcelona shifted their attention to the Champions League, but they were bundled out losing 8-2 against the German champions.

According to the report by UK Mirror, the Barcelona boss has informed Luis Suarez, Rakitic, Vidal and Umitti to find new clubs this summer because they won't be part of his plan for next season.

The report added that Ronald Koeman even told these 4 players that their contracts at the Nou Camp could be terminated this summer.

Dutchman Koeman is also trying to convince captain Lionel Messi to commit his future to the club and he is also ready to welcome Philippe Coutinho back to Barcelona.

Earlier Eyes.ng had reported how Luis Suarez was told he is no longer needed at Barcelona according to latest reports by Argentine outlet RAC1 which adds that new manager Ronald Koeman has notified the Uruguayan about the decision on phone.

The 33 year old earns £290,000 per week and one of the first duties Ronald Koeman has been charged with at the Catalan club is to reduce their wage bill.

After their exit in the Champions league and following the sacking of Setién as the club manager and appointment of Koeman, Suarez earlier asked the Barcelona board to let him know if he is also up for sale or not.

Barcelona are reportedly planning to offload most of their players this summer and club president Josep Maria Bartomeu confirmed the news, adding that just 7 players will not be put up for sale.

The Sun citing RAC1 are claiming that Suarez has been told in clear and simple terms his services are no longer needed at the club during a telephone chat with Koeman on Monday, August 24.
